A friend’s birthday led us all to the Richmond Club Hotel on Swan Street. I had never been before, so wasn’t really sure on what to expect. Location is perfect, with a short walk from the MCG, Rod Laver Arena and AAMI Park, the space no doubt is busy when there is an event taking place.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

I was quite surprised, walking in to a funky refurbished, 3 level space. Booths, couches and high top bar tables fill all 3 levels creating ample space for those busy footy nights. Built in the late 1800’s, this iconic pub has won the hearts of many sporting fans for their pub of choice to watch the big games. With their recent refurb, the clientele has slightly changes to a younger more polished crowd, sipping cocktails in the summer sun.

The main dining space showcases their large bar area, cosy booths and high top tables. Making your way past the bar and down the hall (to the left of the bar) you will find yourself in the beer garden with large communal tables, heating for those chilly Melbourne days and lots of greenery throughout. Make your way up the stairs to the first level with a bar and balcony or keep heading up to the top to enjoy their rooftop with a unobstructed view of the city.

FOOD

Since we weren’t really here for a meal, the group just ordered their own food from the bar throughout the day. After seeing a few parmas come out, it was only natural that hubby and I had to order one each. Looks were unfortunately better than taste here. The parmas were made with real chicken breast (bonus), however was way over cooked, and burnt in some spots. The ham was good, smoked with a decent flavour, but the sauce was quite bland. The chips saved the dish, beer battered and crunchy! It would have been nice to be served with some dipping sauce, but you can’t get everything you want!

Overall, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the refurb is beautiful. Would love to come back and check out the rest of the menu. Unfortunately the parma wasn’t the best, but that won’t stop us from coming back again.
