Higher Ground has always been on the top of my list of places to visit since opening their doors a few years back. Since it’s not the easiest of places to visit (unless your already in the CBD) it’s been a bit tricky to get to. From the team that brought us the amazing Top Paddock and The Kettle Black, I knew we would be in for something amazing.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

I’ve seen some pretty amazing photos of the interior space, but until you actual can experience it for yourself, you really just don’t know how stunning the space is. With sky high ceilings, this multi-level cafe/restaurant is like no other. The spectacular arched windows, rustic exposed brick walls, and massive oversized concrete columns all work to create a truly exceptional atmosphere. The pops of black throughout bring a hint of modernism to this industrial style space.

Service was just as impressive as the space we were in. Our waitress was professional, welcoming and attentive from the moment we were seated. We did have a 40 minute wait for our table, however were able to grab a coffee at their outdoor coffee station while we waited.

FOOD

We were off to a pretty good start with the atmosphere and service, but could the food really live up to the expectations? With siblings Top Paddock and The Kettle Black offering top notch dishes, I was expecting the same here.

With so many amazing dishes to choose from, I decided to go with the ‘Polenta Porridge’ served with summer peach, young coconut and raspberry. Presentation was stunning and tasted just as delicious as it looked!

Next up was the ‘Mango and Coconut Whip’ served with buckwheat granola, rhubarb, peanut and native riberry. Again, another standout dish for both presentation and taste. If I had to choose between the two, I would probably go with the Polenta as it had a few more tasty elements to it.

So, was the 40 minute wait for a table worth it? Definitely! The food, service and atmosphere were all pure perfection. The team have done an amazing job adding to their cafe family and hope they continue to grow!
