Post silly season had me craving something other than BBQ, seafood and turkey. With the family still in town over the holidays, we decided it was time to part our Christmas pressies and make our way out in the fresh air for some delicious brekky. I figured most places would still be busy with so many people off work, so tried to find somewhere that was centrally located for all of us, delicious and wouldn’t be overly crowded.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

Opening their doors in 2015, Glovers Station sits in a charming converted 1930’s service station. This spacious, bright cafe boosts high ceilings, oversized rustic windows, wooden furniture and comfy sofas.

Gorgeous red brick fills the exterior of the building where ample outdoor seating is available, creating a homely neighbourhood vibe. Walking through the large front entrance, you are welcomed by a generous sized coffee bar, perfect for those looking to grab a take-away coffee.

Unfortunately the service was a bit of a let down today. Although our waiter was very friendly and attentive with getting our orders taken, our coffee was forgotten. The food started to come out while we were all still waiting for drinks. When we mentioned that we were still waiting for drinks, our waiter sincerely apologised and slowly coffee started to arrive to the table, one by one. The last drink didn’t arrive until we were all finished eating and plates cleared. A bit annoying considering it wasn’t busy.

*Apologies for the lack of photos! We were so deep in conversation we forgot to get some interior shots.

FOOD

The menu focuses on seasonal local produce, with the chef’s own twist on brekky classics. The front cabinet is full of tasty French pastries and treats from a local baker, available for those dining in or take-away.

Since we were still on ‘holidays’ I decided to keep the sweet treats flowing and ordered the ‘Ambrosia Waffles’ served with seasonal fresh fruit & mint salad vanilla yogurt and finished with white chocolate sauce. Portion size was perfect, the balance of sweetness from the fruit and tartness from the yogurt was spot on, and presentation was gorgeous. Definitely a winner for me!

Overall, although the service was a bit of a let down with the forgotten coffee order, the overall service was friendly, the food was tasty and the atmosphere was relaxed.
