Our morning took us down the streets of Prahran, leading us to the beautiful Greville St. I had never noticed Palate Restaurant before, so thought we would give it a go for a quick bite to eat. After doing a bit a research, I found that this restaurant is also known for their Paleo dishes for those who follow a Paleo lifestyle.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

The alfresco area out front features a beautiful white picket fence and a few tables set under oversized umbrellas. Moving inside the fit out is quite simple with a long banquette seat running across the back of the restaurant with tables and additional chairs. A large wooden communal table sits in the centre of the restaurant, acting as the main focal point when you enter.

Opposite the banquette seating is the large bar area, which also acts as a sweets bar with a range of homemade goodies to choose from.

The service was relaxed for breakfast, with the team welcoming us as we walked through the door and our coffee orders taken as soon as we were seated. The food did take a bit to come out considering it wasn’t too busy, however with great company we made good use of the time.

FOOD

The restaurant offers an all day breakfast and lunch menu (which is ideal for those like me who wake up a bit too late to miss the usual breakfast time). Healthy options fill the menu, plus a range of gluten, lactose, and sugar free paleo-focused dishes.

Once seated, we ordered our first round of coffees for the day and had a quick look through the menu before decided what to order.

I decided to go with the ‘Oat Porridge’, which was oats, peanut butter, vanilla poached pear, berries and seeds with almond milk. Although a bit thicker than I’m use to, the flavours were beautiful and the sweetness from the pear brought the dish together.

MC went with the ‘Big Brekky’ served with poached eggs, smoky bacon rashers, pork and fennel sausage, grilled tomato, house baked beans, sautéed mushrooms, house made hashbrowns and tomato relish. Given the amount of ingredients listed, the portion size was appropriate for a breakfast dish.

Overall we had a wonderful breakfast at this amazing new find. I would love to come back and try more of their Paleo lunch dishes that they pride themselves on. I loved that it wasn’t overly busy so we could sit and enjoy ourselves as soon as we walked in. Will definitely be heading back soon.
