With an early appointment nearby, I had to skip my early morning brekky and coffee until after my appointment. By the time I finished I was starving and desperate for something to eat (and a strong caffeine fix). I was lucky enough to be within a short minute walk to Balderdash, conveniently located along Port Melbourne’s popular Bay Street.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

The space is bright at airy with a Victorian style feel. White walls contrasted with dark floors and pops of colour from the hanging plants, there was no shortage of charm here. With both indoor and outdoor seating, I was able to grab one of the last tables available inside.

Within a few short minutes our waiter arrived to take coffee and food orders before running back to the counter to deliver the endless orders of coffee. Service was friendly and attentive and served with a genuine smile.

FOOD

It was an unusually warm day so thought I would take full advantage and enjoy an ‘Iced Latte’ instead of my usual Piccalo. A delicious creamy iced latte arrived, perfectly enjoyed while sitting back and doing some serious people watching.

I couldn’t go past the sound of the ‘Bircher’ with chia seeds, cranberries, hazelnuts, pear, apple, walnuts and finished with super cute edible flowers. Within a few minutes of receiving my coffee, brekky was served! The bircher was creamy with a slight crunchy element from the hazelnuts and walnuts, with a pop of tartness from the cranberries.

Overall, this was a great little find! The food was delicious, the coffee creamy and the service quick, attentive and very friendly. Although I don’t frequent the area often, it is definitely on my to go places when heading back.
