For anyone who love’s the snow or if you’re like me and love to sit by a fire with a glass of Shiraz in hand, making a weekend trip to Mount Hotham is a must. It’s roughly a 5 hour drive from Melbourne, but lucky for us we have a friend who has a beautiful place about an hour away which saves on accommodations.

The drive up the mountain is a bit rough as you drive 15km on windy icy roads with no guard rails. Once your close to the top it’s a complete white out with fog, however once you hit the top, the view is sensational. The village is quite small compared to other resorts, but there are ways to keep you busy if your not a snow bunny. Pubs, cafes, spas and shops line the small strip.

While everyone was out skiing and snowboarding, I spent the morning at the Summit Cafe and Bar. It’s a great view of the slopes and entertaining because you can watch everyone on the practice jumps. There is a panorama view of the slopes so you do get an amazing view of the mountains. They only serve breakfast for a short period, however when lunch rolls around, you want to make sure you have a table as everyone seems to comes off the slopes at the same time for lunch.

I would have loved to spend the morning at the spa, but the prices they set for the people who don’t enjoy the snow is just outrageous! Definitely a great place to spend a weekend and would be interested to see how different it is in the summer months.
