We ventured out to Domain Road and decided to check out this new-ish cafe with a simple menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Service here is that of a casual cafe where you make your way to the bar and order your meal. So we got comfy in the large booth on the front patio area and checked out the menu.

ATMOSPHERE

A cosy laid back feel, perfect for the clientele of the South Yarra/ Prahran locals. Sunday mornings are best spent here where the service is friendly and the view is that of the Botanical Gardens. The decor here is very simply with white walls, a black ceiling behind the bar and some simple drop lighting. The beautiful bar is perched up with modern stone and shiny stainless steel, which creates the perfect show piece of the restaurant.

Specials are displayed on the patio area on large chalkboards with colourful writing to help stand out. Menus are printed on clip boards, to stick with the laid back cafe feel that runs through the restaurant. Large wooden tables line the walls of the indoor restaurant, which also make their way onto the covered patio area. The beautiful bases are something to be noticed, that of a french inspired feel.

FOOD

The coffee was beautiful, strong and creamy. They know how to make a perfect short macchiato, which I’ve found a few places lacking to perfect. Sugar is served in large mason jars, again keeping with the homey feel.

My smashed avocado on toast was a bit on the average side, which was served with poached egg and seasoned with lemon juice. I think the lemon juice may have set off the taste of the dish and could have used a bit more salt.

On the other hand, the omelette was absolutely to die for. We made a few changes to the omelette (added chrizo), and the kitchen was very accommodating. When the dish was brought to the table, the waiter let us know that the kitchen couldn’t fit all the chirzo in the omlette, so instead put the rest as a side to enjoy (bonus!). This dish was a stand out, the flavours were all there and was probably one of the best breakfast dishes we’ve had in a while.

SERVICE

The service today was attentive and very friendly. The kitchen had gone out of their way to prepare something that wasn’t on the menu, which was a beautiful added bonus. Not many restaurants will alter a dish, even in the simplest of things, so when you find a place that lets you add something to a dish without a question, it’s somewhere that should be remembered.

We will definitely be back!
