Our weekend ended with a visit to Babble Cafe and Bar in Prahran. With a not so perfect view of the Safeway carpark, the exterior leaves much to the imagination, with a much needed upgrade. However once you make your way inside, you are in a cosy cabin like cafe.

SERVICE

We were welcomed by a young gentleman who showed us to our seat on the outside bench seating. Coffee and breakfast orders were swiftly taken. The service here is friendly and hospitable from a young group of co-workers. There must have been some confusion with the table numbering as we get getting the other tables drink and food orders the whole morning.

FOOD

We went with the usual strong cap and short macchiato to get us through the morning blues.  The coffee was decent, but not the best I’ve had from the South Yarra/Prahran area. There was a large mug of OJ that was accidentally brought to our table, which I wish was ours as it looked amazingly fresh (and would have been perfect based on our previous night out).

The menu is simple, focusing on Gluten Free options for the growing GF clientele. Granola, French Toast and Omelettes all make the cut for a tasty breakfast meal.

We both decided to go with omelettes and check out the comparison between the two. The first order was House Frau Omelette with chorizo, salami, cheese, onion & mushroom. Portion size was decent and had some powerful flavours which worked beautifully together for breakfast.

Mine was slightly the same however instead of chorizo and salami it had just ham. It was okay, however nothing to brag about. Mine lacked flavour and was overloaded in the centre with cheese. Probably not worth ordering again. However my side of mushrooms were quite tasty and made up for the lack of taste in the omelette.

ATMOSPHERE

They say never judge a book by it’s cover and that’s exactly what I did here today. The exterior is in major need of a face lift, however the interior is quite welcoming. A cute little bar area is at the front entrance as you approach, which means there is always someone there to welcome you, whether it’s a floor staff or bar staff.

The standout feature for me was the fireplace. I LOVE fireplaces and love venturing out on a cold winter’s day to sit beside a fire while eating some tasty food with a beautiful glass of Shiraz in hand. I will definitely have to keep this place in mind in the upcoming months.

The whole feel of the restaurant is like a cosy, intimate ski lodge with high wooden ceilings and features of wooden walls and small tables scattered throughout the restaurant.

Babble Cafe and Bar is the perfect place to go for somewhere that’s casual and low-key. The menu is simple, the atmosphere is intimate and the service is hospitable, what more could you ask for from a Prahran cafe?
