The space has been occupied by a few different cafes/restaurants over the years, with House of Lulu White being the latest. Opening their doors only a short few month’s ago, I was quite eager to check out what they had to offer.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

This funky little cafe has an 80’s, meets swanky fitout with salmon colour walls, black exposed ceilings and modern lighting. Simple oversized timber tables and modern black chairs and couches fill the space and hints of greenery add a welcoming vibe to the space.

The service was exceptional from the moment I walked through the front door. From the waiter to the barista, everyone was friendly and made me feel like part of their Lulu White family.

FOOD

Their menu is edgy with a ‘Naughty’ and ‘Nice’ section, plus their take on the continental breakfast called ‘The Hamptons’ section. I ordered my morning Piccolo while I tried to decide whether to be naughty or nice. The coffee was delicious, arrived just the right temperature and had a smooth, creamy finish.

I thought with summer just around the corner, I should be nice, and decided to go with the ‘Nut Granola’ served with Acai, Almond Milk Co., fresh fruit, goji berries, buckwheat & yoghurt. I loved the slight crunch from the buckwheat and paired with the fresh fruit and acai, this was a winning dish.

I know I said summer is around the corner, but I had to at least get a little something naughty, and decided to order a side of ‘Potato Hash’, which was definitely the right decision! I’ve had quite a few potato hash sides lately, and most places try to overdo it with the herbs and spices, however this was perfect, with just the right amount of flavouring.

Overall, this was a great little find in South Yarra. Although just off the busy street of Toorak Road, the place still seems to get quite a bit of foot traffic, and I can definitely see why now. The food was delicious, the service super friendly and the space a bit edgy.
