I’ve heard so much about Tom, Dick & Harry, and thought it was about time I checked it out. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and was excited to sit outside and enjoy one of the first nice days Melbourne had to offer.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

Located on Toorak Road, near Chapel Street, location is key for those looking for an amazing, quick breakfast. There are only a hand full of seats inside the narrow cafe, and a hand full of chairs along a long bench outside overlooking Toorak Road. I was able to grab a seat outside as someone was just leaving and within a few short minutes menus were presented.

You’ve probably seen their branded coffee cups, a white cup stamped with their French Bulldog logo, which has been all over social media the last few months. The notorious takeaway coffee cups were heading out of the cafe quicker than any other cafe I’ve seen before. There was a line out the door with people waiting for their morning caffeine fix.

The fit out of the cafe is very simply and clean with the feature of the restaurant being the beautiful shelving behind the bar with a few planets to bring life to the space. The cafe is very narrow with tables only along the walls with bench seating. Plywood panels cover the walls and exposed lighting hang from the ceiling to create simplicity to the space.

The entrance area has two separate areas, one for those looking for take-away coffee and morning baked goods, and the other section is for those dining in at the cafe, which helps to avoid congestion.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive. From the moment we sat down, there was a waiter there to bring us water and hand us menus. After food was brought out, within a few minutes he returned to make sure everything was okay with our meals.

FOOD

Our morning always starts with much needed caffeine fix, and in this case, was served with a small almond biscotti, which was a nice added touch. The coffee was good, but I wouldn’t say it was the best that Melbourne has to offer.

The menu is small with a hand full of made to order dishes, a build your own breakfast section with all the bells and whistles plus a cabinet full or morning baked goods. Cabinet fare including healthy salads, muffins, wraps and breakfast cups which can be enjoyed at the restaurant or taken home to enjoy.

Before even arriving I already knew what I was ordering, based on the amazing photos I’ve seen online! Probably more photographed than the super cute French Bulldog cups is the Smashed Avocado on Chia Seed Toast. Served with a quinoa super grain salad of raw greens, feta, currants, fresh herbs, sunflower & pumpkin seeds and smoked almonds, this was definitely a power house breakfast! If it wasn’t already beautiful enough, it was finished with beautiful edible flowers for that added touch. The option is available to add poached eggs to the dish (which I passed on), however was satisfied with the portion size and was quite filling.

Overall, breakfast was delicious and the staff were very friendly. The turn around for food is relatively quick, so if you are looking for a quick breakfast, definitely consider Tom, Dick & Harry. Pricing is a bit on the high side, but for the location, you would expect to pay around the same price anywhere.
