Our mid-week dinner kicked off at The Merrywell – Upstairs. With a beautiful view of the Yarra, a great beverage list and some very tasty dishes to choose from, it was the perfect choice to get through our Wednesday blues.

ATMOSPHERE

The Merrywell is divided by two separate sections. The first being The Merrywell ‘Downstairs’, which is more of your pub type restaurant with a more casual feel. This showcases a range of many different burgers to choose from with some very addictive sides!

The second space is The Merrywell ‘Upstairs’, with a more upbeat classy pub, which attracts a large after work crowd. The space offers a massive bar area as well as a separate dining area and year round outdoor dining with a beautiful view of the Yarra.

I definitely prefer the upstairs area as it’s more my style of classy meets laid back.

FOOD

With a menu full of delicious options, it was hard to choose just one thing to eat, so instead we decided to go with a few different dishes to share between the two of us.

We decided to start with 4 dishes and see how’d we go with these. After ordering with the waiter, he did say it would be more than enough for the two of us to share, yet I was a bit uncertain.

First out were the ‘Buffalo Chicken Wings‘ served hot & spicy with blue cheese fondue and celery sticks. Hot & spicy was exactly what they were! If you aren’t big on spicy food, I’d probably stay away from this dish. However, if you like a bit of fire, these are AMAZING! So tender and juicy with an amazing blue cheese fondue for dipping.

The ‘Mini Wagyu Burgers’ were next to arrive. Three tiny burgers arrived, filled with white cheddar, caramelised onions and pickles. Again, another very juicy dish! The bun was soft and sweet, with a very juicy patty to company it, a perfect combination.

Finally out came the ‘Spiced Beer Battered Fries’, which was yet another home run. The fries were perfectly crisp with an amazing batter that left me wanting more.

I was surprised that we weren’t able to finish the four small dishes that we ordered. The waiter was definitely right that we didn’t need to order anything else.

SERVICE

Service was a big hit and miss. We were seated within less than a minute of arriving, yet had to wait over 15 minutes for someone to come and take our drink orders as well as another 10 minutes to get our food orders taken. However once the food was ordered, it quickly came out to the table.
