Pre Grand Final breakfast needed to be something delicious before large amounts of alcohol were consumed. With a large group of 8, I was a bit worried we weren’t going to find anywhere that would take us, being a very busy weekend. I popped into Stellini Bar the day before and made an early booking just to be on the safe side.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

This intimate little cafe/bar, sister to Mess Hall on Bourke Street, definitely packs out 7 days a week. With a perfect location near all the large office buildings, it’s safe to say they have perfected a menu based around the quick in and out breakfast and lunch meetings.

Walking in, there is a large communal table, a few tables near the open windows, and bench seating along the back wall. I must say, the space is quite small, but they have utilised every inch of the space available.

The large marble bar welcomes you as you walk into the bar, and an open concept kitchen sits behind the bar area. Decor is quite simple with a large white tiled wall behind the bar with daily specials written down.

The service throughout the morning was friendly, quite and attentive.

FOOD

The menu is small with a hand full of classic breakfast dishes. Looking for something substantial to fill me up, I decided to go with the BLT sandwich. Most of the group went with build your own breakfasts with eggs, bacon, avocado, etc.

I must admit, the BLT was quite bland. The bun was extremely hard and almost inedible and very dry. There was a small piece of bacon on each piece, and overload of lettuce and a few pieces of tomato and no sauce. I was definitely expecting more from such a simple dish.

Overall the breakfast was okay, however nothing out of this world. Maybe we need need to head in for lunch or dinner and check out those menus.
