Zürich was never on our itinerary of places to visit while on our Eupo trip, but decided at the last minute to break up a long drive from Munich to Lucerne and spend the night in Zurich. Being a Platinum Elite IGH member, we decided to stay at a participating hotel to stay loyal to the brand.
The hotel itself is beautiful with a large open concept reception area with ample seating and dark wood furnishings. The hotel has received 4 stars, which is shown through the fit out of the hotel. I find most Crowne Plaza hotels looks relatively the same, more business friendly than leisure friendly.
We must have arrived at the wrong time as the reception area was full of people checking in. There were a few buses outside, which means a few tour groups were trying to check in at the same time. We lined up in the Priority line, as we always do and patiently waited to be served. A good 20 minutes later it was finally our turn, only to be told to go stand in the other line for someone else to help us with our check in. We were off to a great start! No complimentary upgrade and below average service was our first impression of the hotel.
After what seemed like forever, we gathered our bags and made our way up to our room to settle in after a long day of driving and to find somewhere to eat at such a late hour.
Our hotel room was quite small, yet very clean and comfortable. A queen bed, small desk, TV, international plugs and free wifi are all features in the room. The bathroom was what you’d find in any other hotel, clean and basic.
Overall, the Crowne Plaza Zurich did the trick for what we needed, a good nights sleep. Although the stay may not have been the friendliest, and our check in was a bit frustrating, all and all, the hotel was clean and convenient.
