We had attempted to eat here on a Sunday morning, however arrived during their busiest time and were told we’d have to wait at least 45 minutes. Unfortunately, our tummies couldn’t wait that long, which meant we had to find somewhere else to eat. Still intrigued on why the wait was so long, I went back during the week when I knew it wasn’t going to be such a long wait.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

I arrived around 1pm and was able to get a table outside under the heaters and enjoy the beautiful sunny Melbourne afternoon. Inside, the space was quite noisy and busy, so was quite happy to sit outside and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. The tables inside are set close together, which I could imagine you would be able to hear your neighbours conversation without trying too hard.

Despite how close the tables were to each other, the interior of the space had an amazing industrial vibe with exposed ceilings, dark brick walls and textured concrete floors. Timber tables and black wire chairs line the brick wall, and natural light pouring in from the large front windows.

I was pleasantly surprised with how attentive and friendly the service was. I sometimes find that with busy cafes, the service is hit and miss. You either get someone who is attentive but not too friendly, or the other way around. Today, the waitress was genuinely friendly and kept coming outside to make sure everyone had water, coffee and were happy.

FOOD

Their menu if full of delicious breakfast dishes (eggs, hotcakes, etc.), super salads and substantial sandwiches using fresh, seasonal local ingredients. It was another day of an endless list of things to do, so was in need of something a bit more than just my usual breakfast. I decided to go with the ‘Beetroot Cured Salmon’ with organic quinoa, avocado, chilli, kale, currant, cauliflower, broccoli, sunflower seed, poached eggs, feta and herbs. But without the Salmon… I’m not a fish lover, but everything else about this dish sounded amazing. I was so embarrassed to ask for this without the main ingredient, however must happen often as it was no problem at all!

Instead of the salmon, I ordered a side of haloumi, which they incorporated onto the plate beautifully. I was so impressed with the elements of this dish, every part of it worked so well together. The broccoli and seeds added a slight crunch, the avocado and egg a creamy aspect and the feta a slight sweetness that tied everything together.

I’m so glad I was able to come back when it wasn’t overly busy and check out the space and menu. The food was delicious, the service welcoming, and the overall vibe was upbeat and relaxed. Definitely worth checking out!
