This past Sunday, Melbourne saw a rare hot day, which pushed everyone to either the beach or the closest beer garden to them. We waited as long as possible before heading out in the heat and made our way to the Windsor Castle Hotel later in the evening for a quick drink and a meal.

ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

We made our way through the small front bar entrance to the back beer garden area and found the last table tucked away in the corner. It was too hot to stand in the sun, so the large trees covering the area was just what we needed.

The inside bar is much different to the vibe of the outdoor bar area. Inside is dark and cosy and the outdoor space is fresh and airy. We definitely prefer the outdoor space with funky colourful chairs a DJ mixing music and a fun tiki bar.

The service was quite good, given the fact that you order all your drinks and food at the bar. Food was quite to come out and the waiter knew exactly where we were sitting without having a table number.

FOOD

Cider and white wine was the winning choice of beverage to keep cool. We had only planned on a quite drink and something easy to eat before heading back home.

MC went with the ‘Chicken Parmigiana’ served with a salad and crinkle chips. Tasty napoli sauce covered a real chicken breast, which was a generous size and had a good amount of chips and salad with it.

I went with the ‘Chicken & Leek Pie’ served with crinkle chips and salad as well. Not sure what I was thinking going with a pie on a hot day, however took me quite a while to get through as it was piping hot. Definitely worth a try on a cool Melbourne day. I must say it was tasty and the crust was thin and flaky, as you’d expect from a good pie.
