Our first stop in Cinque Terra was at the beautiful Hotel Stella Della Marina located in Monterosso, Italy. Located down the quiet streets of the old town, the hotel was only a short walk to the beach, train station, main square and restaurants.
Walking in, the building is stunning, which was built in the 17th century and is one of the oldest in the town. Staying true to the history of the building, there are no elevators, which means you will be required to walk up the stairs to get to your room. The climb up is definitely worth it when you see the views from the breakfast area, located on the upper floors.
The rooftop balcony is open throughout the day to either enjoy breakfast, or sit back and relax in the sun, all with beautiful views of the sea. Breakfast is prepared each morning by the talented owner, consisting of coffee, eggs, cakes, cereal, yogurt, juice, fresh fruit, cookies, sliced meats, cheese and breads.
The guest rooms are simple with all the necessary items. Neutral tones and simple decor are true to the location. Complimentary fridges are available in each room as well as a small balcony area to sit back and people watch down the narrow laneway below. On of our most cherished meals was buying meats and cheese from the local deli and a bottle of wine and sitting back on our balcony, people watching.
Thinking back on our honeymoon and the service we received at all the different hotels we stayed at, The Gabriele was by far the most accommodating, friendly and personable person we dealt with throughout our travels. He checked us into the hotel, carried all of our bags up the 5 flights of stairs, cooked us breakfast, and was very helpful with giving us ideas on what to do in the local area.
