The European part of our honeymoon started at the beautiful Intercontinental Hotel in Berlin. Being a member of IHG Rewards Club, we always try to stay at participating hotel’s. The hotel is quite centrally located in the heart of Berlin and within walking distance to shopping, restaurants and sites.

Walking into the hotel, you’ll find yourself under a large glass pyramid where you are greeted by their concierge and large front desk team. The hotel is clean and contemporary, with high ceilings and beautiful art throughout the main lobby area. Simplicity is key here, where the hotel focuses on the service from the staff instead of distracting you with too much decor.

The staff were extremely friendly throughout our two night stay, making sure all of our wants and needs were catered to. Since we only had a short amount of time in Berlin, we had asked the hotel Concierge where the best sights would be to get a good feel of the town. He had suggested a ‘Hop On, Hop Off’ tour, which was a fantastic idea to see everything at once.

We had checked into a beautiful King Suite on the Club Lounge floor of the hotel. Having a room located on the Club Floor also gives you access to the Club Lounge for evening drinks and snacks.

Our room was spacious and clean, offering a beautiful view of the city. Amenities in our room included complimentary snacks, coffee (Bosch Tassimo coffee maker), water and the standard bathroom amenities (products by Agraria with a lemon verbena scent). Also with our IHG status we received a free room upgrade, fruit on arrival and free mini bar (stocked daily). For those who are a bit more particular with their pillows, there is also a ‘pillow menu’ to choose your desired pillow for a good nights sleep.

I found the bathroom quite small based on all the other hotel’s we’ve stayed in. There was only a single sink and small bath/shower combo. There was no door or curtain around the tub, which meant if you weren’t careful, water would end up all over the bathroom floor.

The Club Lounge is located on the 8th floor of the Eastern Tower overlooking the hotel entrance and city in an L-Shape layout. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snacks, there is a pretty decent selection to choose from. The bar is available with a help yourself approach where you can choose from wine, beer or spirits.

It was nice to have somewhere to go that wasn’t crowded and you can sit back on comfy couches, watch tv and just relax with a drink in hand. We had arrived quite late to the lounge so weren’t really hungry for a big meal so just put a small plate of antipasto items and sat in front of the TV to enjoy.

Overall the hotel was beautiful, clean and the staff were very friendly. I find the hotel better suited for business travel than leisure. Since there isn’t a great deal to do at the hotel, if travelling for leisure, it would be best suited for only a few nights before moving on.
