On our usual visit to the sunny coast, we thought we would try somewhere new and venture out of the local area that we stay in. We ended up in Maroochydore and did a quick Urbanspoon search to find Cafe Venice. Although they only had 41 votes, we thought we’d give it a shot.

ATMOSPHERE

It was a Monday morning so we weren’t expecting it to be busy; however there were a handful of tables when we first arrive. There isn’t much of a view as it’s located on a busy street, but we decided to sit out front and enjoy the beautiful day. It’s an open concept restaurant with a small bar area and a display cabinet for their delicious pastries.

It’s a very laid back, beachy type of atmosphere. The inside area has a beautiful modern chandelier hung in the centre of the restaurant with mostly bench seating around the sides and one large table under the chandelier. Magazines are scattered over a few of the tables for those looking to get their gossip fix with their morning cup of joe.

FOOD

I went with the Bircher Muesli, which was a bit different than what you’d normally expect. It was quite runny, but still had all the flavour you would anticipate from a bowl of Bircher Muesli. It was topped off with Greek yoghurt, crushed berries and shaved apple. Probably something you could make yourself at home, but was decent.

We also ordered the Canadian Pancakes with caramelised banana and Canadian maple syrup and with an added side of Canadian bacon. You get four fluffy buttermilk pancakes with sliced banana and a cup of home-made cream. Portion size of both dishes were quite generous for the price paid, however the muesli with nothing special.

The menu is a smallish style menu, serving both breakfast and lunch options. As they are licensed, they have a few different wines available was well as a BYO option for a small corkage fee.

SERVICE

We were served by a lovely older lady who seemed to really enjoy her job. She made sure to repeat our orders back to us to ensure she got them correct. Once our orders came out, our waitress came back shortly after to make sure everything was okay with the food (very American).

Thoughts of our breakfast today – our waitress was very pleasant and friendly which is something you very rarely see these days at cafes. Although not located along the beach, they are directly below the Sebel Hotel, which would bring in quite a bit of business for them. Food was decent and pricing was reasonable for the amount of good received. Plus side, their coffee was amazing!
